Charles “Chic” Thompson

Chic Thompson is an internationally renowned speaker and author on creativity. His passion is inspiring executives, business students and children to be creative problem solvers – be curious first, critical second. Thompson has given more than 3,500 presentations and teamed up with talent ranging from Tony Robbins and Steven Covey to Cirque du Soleil and The Second City.

Thompson has worked extensively for global corporations including UTC, McGraw-Hill, Accenture and the Young Presidents Organization. He has also worked with U.S. government agencies such as CIA, FBI and NASA, as well as schools to help them develop stronger creative thinking skills. Early in his career, Thompson worked in new-product development and marketing for W. L. Gore and associates (the maker of Gore-Tex), Johnson & Johnson and The Walt Disney Company.

Thompson is the author of “What a Great Idea!” that became the main selection of the Executive Book of the Month Club and has been published in English, Japanese, Portuguese and Chinese. He also authored “Yes, But…: The Top 40 Killer Phrases and How You Can Fight Them.”

WagiLabs is one of Thompson’s new creations. WagiLabs are idea incubators for kids ages 8-11, to encourage and expand kids’ natural curiosity, empathy and dogged persistence, as well as promote a global perspective.

Thompson received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Delaware and a master’s degree in education from the University of Virginia. He is a Batten Fellow of Entrepreneurship at the University of Virginia’s Darden Business School and adjunct faculty at the Brookings Institution.
